I actually think this was pretty responsible. Rather than banning it outright, which would result in kids wanting to rebel even more, she offers it in her home where she can control the amount people drink. Good on ya, Mrs George. You’re a cool mom.

She also offered her daughter a condom when she was hooking up with a guy instead of freaking out and kicking the guy out of the house.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Good but not great. This film has spectacular visual effects, amazing sound, and terrific cinematography. One would think that would be enough. Sadly, the ending fell flat. It felt very uneventful and a little disappointing. However, Zachary Quinto’s performance and J.J. Abrams’ talent in science fiction made up for it a little.

The film is about the USS Enterprise being targeted by a one man weapon of mass destruction.

The performances for the most part were decent. Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana were admirable but not too special. The best performances were Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch. They carried the film on their backs willingly.

J.J. Abrams is by far one of the best science fiction directors out there. Known for Super 8 and Lost, Abrams is definitely an inspiration. Unfortunately Abrams thought he could dazzle the audience with lasers and guns and not give more story line and character development.

The special effects were phenomenal. Every fight scene looked completely realistic and dazzling. In addition to the special effects, the sound was incredible. If the whole movie was as mesmerizing as the effects, then the film would have been unbelievable.

I can see the film winning Best Visual Effects and possibly Best Sound Editing and Mixing. I doubt it being nominated anywhere else.

Rating: I would give it a 7.5/10.
